I haven’t posted anything on this blog in over a month, and the reason is one of the best possible ones: I became a father. That happened more than a month ago, but thank God, I’m finally starting to get a reasonable amount of sleep again. Now that my brain is at least minimally functional, I can sit down with a little more patience and write in what has become my open notebook on the internet.
First of all, I changed the blog’s aesthetic to something more Diablo-like. Why? Well, I love the universe of Blizzard’s franchise. The trigger was that, thanks to the influence of a few friends, I’ve recently started playing Path of Exile 2, an ARPG. Like a former crack addict being introduced to a new drug, I ended up going back to my old crack as well. Not literal crack, of course, just Diablo 3.
Wow, killing mobs in that game is still incredibly satisfying. I hadn’t played it in eight years, ever since the BlizzCon 2018 disaster, but now I’m back, and I’m glad I returned. There are no new seasons at the moment, instead, they are rotating through older ones, which gives the game a nostalgic quality for me. On top of that, they have added some considerable improvements, such as a permanent campaign skip, an altar that provides buffs across characters, and portals that lead to multiple maps and make loot rain from the sky. It is an absolute party—one that, now that I’m older and a father, I can enjoy in moderation.
I also managed to start reading my first book in several years. I used to love reading when I was younger, but it was a habit I allowed to die over time. I could blame social media, doomscrolling, and cheap digital stimulation, but that would mean casting myself as the victim when the person clearly at fault is me.
The Will of the Many was the book that brought me back to traveling through imaginary worlds, and let me tell you: what an incredibly well-written book. I may write an entire post about it, but I’ll wait until I’ve read the second book, The Strength of the Few, which sounds very promising.
Until now, I had been using this blog to discuss topics as though I were writing articles for a magazine. Somewhere along the way, I forgot to use it as a personal blog, a place where I can express myself, not just make arguments. I’m going to try writing more often so I can practice my severely underused English, but to do that, I probably need to stop trying to write enormous posts and learn to be more direct.
Speaking of which, one thing I’m proud of is my post, “MMORPGs in 2026: A Tier List for Those Over 30.”. Yes, I just said I need to write less and be more personal. But writing long, subjective pieces is a lot of fun. I also love the old gaming-magazine vibe of ranking games I’ve played as though I were some kind of pseudo-expert.
Because I enjoy that style so much, I want to write an article called “ARPGs in 2026: A Tier List for Those Over 30.” The problem is that I don’t have enough material yet. I still need to play Grim Dawn, Diablo 4, and Diablo 2: Resurrected. At the moment, I’m in the endgame of both Diablo 3 and Path of Exile 2. I’m also waiting for Last Epoch to go on sale so I can buy it.
My goal is to reach the endgame in all of them and compare them as honestly as possible. Yes, that sounds like a lot of work for a single article, but I genuinely want to play these games. The article is just a consequence of that.
And that’s it. Until next time.
